It was a very emotional weekend for me in many levels at the USA Tango Championship 2014. I was re-living each and every single moment. My heart was beating so fast every time when they were announcing the couples passing to the next level. I am happy I was there to witness the competition and more importantly to share all those special moments with my friends and students. It was so beautiful to see the progress of all the LA contestants and see how hard they worked and prepared for the competition. During this competition I reflected back to my memories and appreciated all the the journey i went through with Brian.
No matter how 2014 USA tango championship competition ended which it could be unfair at times and unreasonable, i hope that those who were part of it would stop their minds for a second and realize how much they have achieved through this journey and how many incredible moments whether good or bad they shared with their partner. To me that’s priceless. The most important thing is not necessarily to take the title but more importantly to think whether you really deserve that title. I believe that you are your best judge and the harshest critique. If you are a champion in your eyes, then you can consider yourself fully accomplished. Don’t let other people’s opinions, in this case the judges of the competition, put you down. This is not something you should take seriously. After all it’s just a score and as we all know tango is very subjective.
If i can add my opinion what is tango, i would say tango is a strong chemistry that is created through the dance between two people. If you are in love with your partner for 3 minutes during the dance, that’s tango. It’s when you give your 100% and receive 100%. It’s when two people flow together and disappear from the conscious mind. When there is magic there is tango. I don’t believe that this element was in consideration during the judging process.
I am very proud to see so many couples from LA passing to the semi-finals & finals. Congratulations to all! I am very thankful to be part of coaching several couples and happy to contribute in anyway possible.
I hope that you all will continue your tango journey and come out even stronger next year.
Love,
Yuliana
